Monday, 27th April 2020 – Prizegiving Cancellation

Times have certainly changed of late with 2020 proving rather challenging. So much so, that the BMW Race Drivers Series Committee held what must be its first committee meeting via video conferencing last week. Of course, the subject of this meeting was to discuss and understand the implications of holding our Annual General Meeting and Prizegiving in June.

Tomorrow we come out of Level 4, and head to Level 3 which for some may bring some level of normality with being able to get back to work. However, we anticipate that it will still be a considerable length of time before we get back to what we can call normal.

With the above in mind, the Committee has come to the unfortunate decision to cancel our annual prize-giving dinner and host the Annual General Meeting via video conference instead.
Even if we managed to get to Level 2 by then, while this would still permit indoor gatherings of less than 100, we are still expecting the need to have social distancing and contact tracing in place. For those of you who have attended one of our prize-giving functions, you will know these can be quite the cosy affair!

Of course, we still want to celebrate the achievements within the series, and over the course of the next four weeks we will be highlighting these with round by round recaps.

Our intention is to also have a “bigger than ever” E30 Scholarship Day.
Being held on Saturday, 15th August at Hampton Downs, not only will we be cruising around on the National Circuit, but we’ve also hired the skidpan too for some good old fashioned fun. Therefore mark the date in your calendar folks as this is also when we will be presenting the championship trophies among other awards. 

While this may come as a disappointment (and let me assure you, the Committee is also deeply disappointed), we have to ensure the well-being of our members and those around us are kept in the highest regard.

The next question you may have is surrounding the Annual General Meeting. This will still take place as per the original date on 20th June 2020.
We are looking at all avenues to how we will be hosting this online, therefore if you have any recommendations/experience please shout out.
