2010/11 Race Calendar

The following competition rounds have been confirmed, with the possibility of one additional round still to be confirmed.  This six-round schedule has a minimum of four weeks between rounds, and should provide drivers with plenty of time to keep their cars in top condition.

1) Sept 25/26 Icebreaker Meeting Hampton Downs
2) Nov 13/14 MG Classic Manfeild (NB: Two E30 grids confirmed)
3) Dec-12th TACCOC Xmas Meeting Hampton Downs
4) Jan 15/16 Tasman Revival Meeting Taupo
5) Feb 19/20 Tasman Revival Meeting Pukekohe
6) Mar 19/20 Legends of Speed Hampton Downs

All meetings except Manfeild will use the on-line entry system, and with two E30 grids now available at that meeting, there should be no issues of grid places.   It will also mean that we will have the same format at all rounds.  If anything, it is the single Open-class grid that will come under space pressure, especially at Hampton Downs if their track limit remains at 36 cars.  The Committee has decided that entries will be allocated on a first-in basis, provided they are already registered for the series, so it will be up to drivers to monitor the website (www.motorsportentry.com) to see when race meetings are open for entries.

NB: Before scheduling any additional rounds, we will try to ensure that at least 6 weeks notice is given to drivers.

Please click here for copies of the current rules and regulations

- E30 Technical Regulations
- E30 Race/Competition format
- Open Class Race/Competition format

E30 technical regulations, the changes are highlighted in yellow, and can be summarised as:
- Confirmation of the items that need to be changed for a conversion from Motronic to L-Jetronic, or vice versa.
- 4.1b amendment to allow the heater hoses to be disconnected from the heater core, though all components must still be installed on the car.
- Confirmation of the decision from December 2008 that “hybrid” engines are no longer permitted, with clarification of which pistons can be fitted.
- 5.5d clarification of the correct measurements for throttle bodies on each model.
- 5.5g confirmation that an additional cooling fan may now be fitted.
- 5.5j confirmation of the rev limits that have been set for each model, and the methods for ensuring these limits are not exceeded.
- 8.2g confirmation that lap timers may be fitted, as long as this is allowed by meeting organisers and Motorsport NZ.
- 8.3d clarification that radios may not be fitted to cars in the E30 class.
- 11.2 & 12.2c confirmation of a 50kg reduction in minimum race weight for Motronic models, now 1175kg, the same as L-Jetronic.

Open Class technical regulations – no fundamental changes are planned, just a couple of clarifications or changes of wording. These will be issued in the next week or so.

The E30 Race/Competition format includes the following changes:
- Revised points table with larger gaps between the higher places, and an increase to 10 points for qualifying & fastest lap bonuses.
- Modification of the second race bracket to a reverse-grid format with cars starting in three blocks, with 5 seconds between each group.
- Modification of the gridding system for the third bracket of races – cars to be sorted by points scored in the first two races, rather than fastest laps.
- Championship to be based on all points scored in all reasons during the season, with no allowance for dropping any scores.

The Open Class Race/Competition format includes the following changes:
- Separation of the Open class into three equally-ranked race groups, with no overall Open Class championship.
- Revised points table with larger gaps between the higher places, and an increase to 10 points for qualifying & fastest lap bonuses.
- Elimination of qualifying points other than a bonus for the top qualifier in each group.
- All races will have a full set of points, including fastest lap bonus awarded to each Group.
- Trophies to be awarded for the top three cars in each class at each round, and for the whole season.
- Season competition points allow for the two worst results to be dropped. (previously three drops, plus worst qualifying score)
- Race types changed from two handicap & one scratch race to one handicap, one scratch and one reverse-grid group start race.
- Final race of each round will see the cars start in one single grid, sorted firstly on race group (A, B, C) then in reverse order of their fastest lap.

Pre-Season Scrutineering – it is still our intention to check all E30 series cars and seal as many as possible well ahead of the first round. The most likely dates are September 3rd, 4th or 11th. When the date is confirmed, we will require all drivers within a certain distance of the inspection centre to present their cars for scrutineering. Cars/drivers outside the defined area will be checked/sealed at the first race meeting, though we will still require photos of the car to confirm that the meet the decal/signage requirements of the regulations. Open class cars, with their minimal technical requirements will also not need to be physically inspected – only the confirmation of decals/signage by photo will be required. More details to follow in due course.

Registration – now that the competition rules for both classes and the E30 technical regulations have been issued, we can start the registrations process for the 2010/11 season. A new registration form will be sent out by the end of July, with registrations (including payment) by the end of August qualifying for a rebate. Most sponsor decals are supplied free of charge, but Castrol screen banners and Number boxes are chargeable items. The registration form will confirm the details for ordering all decals.
